Tour overview

Encounter some of Africa’s magnificent Big 5 and learn conversational English at the same time. During your stay, you will get up close and personal with animals including lion, buffalo, rhinoceros, elephant and the great white shark. You will also be able to explore the historic Karoo town of Oudtshoorn, which is home to the world’s biggest bird – the ostrich.

Day of Arrival (Sunday):

  • Arrive in George and transferred to centralised accommodation
  • Xplore English provides a welcome pack and gourmet snack for students on arrival at their accommodation

Day 1 (Monday):

Morning (09h00 to 12h30):

  • 6 morning classroom sessions covering:
    • - Quick pre-course oral proficiency test
    • - Ice breaker class
    • - Basic English communicative skills
    • - Introduction to the tourist destinations
  • Lunch at a local restaurant

Afternoon:

  • Travel to a Game Reserve for a more physical ice breaker activity
  • 2 hour guided horseback safari or a guided walking safari

Evening

  • Dinner at a local restaurant
  • Socialise after dinner

Day 2 (Tuesday):

Morning (09h00 to 12h30):

  • 6 morning classroom sessions covering:
    • - Basic English communicative skills
    • - Introduction to the tourist destinations
    • - Cooking and culture class
  • Lunch at a local restaurant

Afternoon:

  • Travel to the supermarket to buy the cooking class ingredients
  • Cooking class to prepare the traditional meal

Evening

  • Students enjoy the prepared meal as a take-away at their George accommodation

Day 3 (Wednesday):

Morning (09h00 to 12h30):

  • 6 morning classroom sessions covering:
    • - Quick pre-course oral proficiency test
    • - Ice breaker class
    • - Basic English communicative skills
  • Lunch at a local restaurant

Afternoon:

  • Transfer to a game lodge, Oudtshoorn
  • Assisting with volunteer work at the game lodge

Evening

  • Dinner at the game lodge

Day 4 (Thursday):

Morning

  • Breakfast at the game lodge
  • Cango Caves Heritage Tour
  • Witnessing lion feeding at a game lodge
  • Lunch

Afternoon:

  • Game lodge bush safari

Evening

  • Dinner at the game lodge
  • 5 minute oral presentation by students

Day 5 (Friday):

Morning

  • Breakfast at the game lodge
  • Visit the Cango Wildlife Ranch
  • Ostrich farm tour
  • Set 3 course lunch at ostrich farm

Afternoon:

  • Travel To Mossel Bay via the majestic Robertson Pass
  • Boat trip – view all types of marine creatures and animals
  • Travel to George accommodation

Evening

  • Farewell dinner at a popular local restaurant

Day of Departure (Saturday):

  • Breakfast at the George accommodation
  • Depart

Accommodation

Your single room accommodation has been carefully selected to ensure maximum comfort and a homely atmosphere for the duration of your stay.

During your time in George, this will be either a 4-star rated guest house or an intimate 4-star rated hotel. Both facilities are close to the centre of town and within walking distance from most amenities. Breakfast will be served before you depart to the local venue used for the three morning teaching sessions.

When we embark on the two-day Animal Experience Tour, you will be staying in a luxury tented camp. This will give you a ‘close to nature’ African safari experience. Each air conditioned tent has its own private en-suite bathroom.

All meals have been carefully selected to ensure a unique, multi-cultural, culinary experience. If you have special dietary requirements, please notify us when you make your booking.
